Married couples should have children for gospel growth
Zac Veron says God needs families to grow his church.
Not all married Christian couples are able to have children. This often results in great sadness to them & those close to them. Most married couples, however, are blessed with children. Why? To fill the world with Christians who will rule over his creation.
In Genesis 1:28 we read:
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Sadly, some young Christian couples resolve never to have children. I have heard one couple say they made the choice as it was best for Christian ministry. Their zeal for ministry is to be commended, however, their choice is misguided. Choosing not to have any children when you are physically able, ought not to be encouraged for young Christian couples. Producing godly offspring is one of God’s purposes for Christian marriage.
God wants his people to influence his world with his truth. He uses Christians to do that. The more Christians in the world, the more Jesus is proclaimed as Lord through their witness.
When you trust in Jesus Christ, he makes you clean in God’s sight through his death and resurrection. He forgives you of all your sin and will protect you, like an impregnable shield, from God’s forthcoming judgement. He strengthens you to serve him and his people in his world in your life.
Pass that Christian faith on to your children, and train them to pass it on to their children. In this way, you will bless generations of your descendants with the salvation that is found in Jesus Christ alone.
