The Christian family should be a zone where the members acknowledge their Creator and enjoy the creation he has given us!
Relax with your family and enjoy the wonderful world the Lord has given you. Do fun things together regularly as a family. Create an environment where your children long to spend time together with their parents and other siblings.
Key to that is making sure you take your holidays … with your kids. Party hard on holidays. Nearly every time I have come back from holidays over the last 20 years, I've felt like I needed a break because I’ve been busy chasing three energetic girls. But that’s OK. Before I know it, things will change. My children will want to go on holidays with their young adult friends, or our ability to take holidays at the same time will be limited, and it will be too late to share those precious times together.
The Bible says your children are a gift:
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate. (Psalm 127:3–5)
You will only have your children under your roof for a very short time. It’s way too short. Make that time count! No one on his or her death bed says they regret not having spent more hours at work or playing golf with their mates. They do, however, regret not spending time with their children while their children were young.
There are always other days to embark on other projects. There will be another season to take holidays on your own, but you only have your children for a very limited period. There will always be time for putting more effort into your career, but it should be never at the expense of spending quantity time with your children. If you have more than a handful of week of annual leave accrued, and you don’t plan to take them with your children soon, you are robbing your children of you and the potential of your loving Christian influence!
